[ale] ide rom install

hello,
i have been running a linux system on a 486dxii66 for some time without
any problems until i switched to a p100 with a creative labs hexspeed
cd-620e rom drive. the linux ide/atapi boot disk will recognize the 620
at boot, but setup won't detect it when it is selected as install
source. i know that most of the time it is enough to switch the drive's
id to 0, but there's no way to adjust that on the 620. would you have
any suggestions? thanks in advance,
