[ale] how to install an rpm ?

i am about to download the latest glibc from red hat

i've never used rpm directly before.

what options (besides '-i') do i need to specify to rpm when installing ? 

also, i see that the glibc comes in 4 flavors (plain, debug, devel, profile)
what are the differences ?
