ale-
Hello, it's Dave...
I'm a newbie when it comes to all this routing business, and I've been
trying for some time now to get these two ethernet cards to talk to each
other, but to no avail.
Currently, I have two machines. One of them, spork, has it's eth0 set to
10.1.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 10.1.1.255.
The other machine, bofh, is set to 10.1.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
broadcast 10.1.1.255.
Primarily, I just want the two cards to at least be able to talk to each
other (so I can ftp and telnet, etc). I have set a route on bofh for
10.1.1.2, and one on spork for 10.1.1.1 (as you can see below), but they
still dont want to talk to each other (they dont give
ping responses.)
SPORK's ROUTING TABLE (localnet being 10.1.1.0):
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
10.1.1.1 * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 1 eth0
localnet * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 eth0
loopback * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 3 lo
Eventually, I want bofh to serve as a gateway for spork, but as for now
I'm having to use sork for dialup because I'm having modem probs with
bofh. If anyone could help me out, that would be wonderful. Best wishes
for the new year! (please respond to spork at 777.net, not
root at spork.777.net)
regards,
Dave Brooks
