After 52 days of up time I finally had to telnet in and reboot my linux box. 
Somehow I hung the console running an assortment of applications.  How does one
regain control of the console once it locks up in X when "ctrl + alt +
backspace" won't do it and "ps -x" showes no X server or applications running.
