I personally have found the documentation which comes along with
the QT toolkit to be especially nice. Most of QT's classes are well
documented with supporting example programs to boot. Plus, the QT
toolkit comes with something like 8 or 9 "starter" programs. Anything
from a spiffified "hello world" up to a simple "cannon" kind of game.
This stuff can be found at www.troll.no/qt/.
