I edited /etc/lilo.conf to include a boot option to boot from
vmlinuz.old so that if there is a problem I can drop back to the last
working kernel (truthfully I also made a 'safe' boot to boot from a
vmlinuz.safe that I have kept in which everything worked as advertised
-- just in case. But then I'm paranoid)
