[ale] Motif & lesstifi libraries

i am looking at getting a motif library to do some playing around and
refresh my X skills  (never went beyond the Athena before)

questions:

1) is lesstif something i can do basic development on ? 
   (just read their FAQ and seems that nothing is guaranteed yet)
2) of the commercially available motif library packages (for linux), what is 
   reliable and complete and... cheap ?
