[ale] Q: How is cdrom type identified to load proper module?

Hi -- I wish to set up a kernel which can alternatively use one of two or
more modules for different CDROM drives.  Assuming I have built the
correct modules, how can I ensure that the proper one is used?  In some
cases I would know what type to use; alternatively, I might need the
kernel to test. How do I set this up?
