[ale] make file problems

I'm trying to execute make on a make file I've written
and I keep getting back:
', needed by 'all'.  Stop.target 'SoftStatServer.jar

The 'all' line in the make file is:
all:	$(SOFTSTATSERVER_JAR)

and that macro is defined as
SOFTSERVER_JAR = SoftStatServer.jar

Does anyone have any ideas.  I don't get this error message
with the GNU make for Win32.
