[ale] laptop install

I'm trying to install Red Hat 4.0 on a laptop using an Adaptec 
SCSI PC-card (PCMCIA) connected to a run-of-the-mill SCSI CD ROM.

I think I'm missing something obvious because Win95 doesn't see the
CDROM either, even though it recognizes the adaptec SCSI card.
I figure if I can get 95 to see it then I'd have a chance of linux
seeing it.

Any ideas?  Thanks!  Oh, I've tried several IDs for the CD ROM
(0,1,4 & 6).
