I second this.  I don't want the ALE group to participate in a
certification plan.  I don't see what good for the group could come from
it.  I can see a lot of potential harm - "You gave this guy your seal of
approval and he turned out to be a bozo."  That makes everyone look bad
- the sysadmin, the ALE group, and the Linux Operating System.  

If you want to be more marketable, join the market and pay someone to
become certified in some Commercial Unix.
