upgrade problem

Hi there, 
	I was thinking about upgrading to the newest gcc and binutils, 
etc stuff. However, I'm confused about the binutils2.6.0.2 release file, 
it says that:

Now you have the new gas/binutils under /usr/bin and
/usr/i486-linuxaout/bin. You have to do

/usr/i486-linuxaout/bin/as

and

/usr/i486-linuxaout/bin/ld -m i386linux

if you want to use a.out as and ld.

What am I going to do? Run the 
	as
and 
	ld -m i386linux
commands? What are those for? 

	Your help highly appreciated.
