Thanks to those who narrowed down on the conflict between the default
route ("dummy") named in my rc.inet1 and the attempt of the G.I.T.
pppd to negotiate a router. By manually deleting the default router,
I have gotten a good ppp link (through which I type), and now I'll
clean up scripts, work on disconnecting and on diald, and so on, and
so on ...
Thanks to all who helped out. I'll try to make up a short addendum
to the G.I.T. PPP startup notes: I will doubtless reference some of
the help I got.
